CARE

TIPS ON KEEPING THEIR PAIR BEAUTIFUL TROUGH EVERY SEASON

Our Materials

Every pair of Marjen shoes is handcrafted in Spain and Portugal from materials chosen to last well beyond a single season. Each one has its own character, and its own way of being cared for. A little attention goes a long way.

Velvet

Velvet is where we began. The material of celebrations, known for its softness and depth of color.

First, what to avoid: water and liquid detergents. Velvet prefers to stay dry.

To clean, use a soft fabric brush or woolen cloth to guide the velvet in the direction of the natural pile. For long term care, light steaming keeps the pile fresh and lifts any compression.

Some flattening in high wear areas is completely normal. That is simply velvet, living its life.

Canvas

Canvas is the material of everyday. Light, breathable, and honest, it asks very little in return.

Spot clean with mild soap, water, and a soft brush or cloth. Air dry naturally. A fabric-safe protector spray before first wear will keep them looking newer, longer.

Our machine-washable canvas styles are even simpler. Cold water, gentle cycle, air dry. That is the entire routine.

Suede

Suede is delightfully soft and beautifully textured, crafted with a napped finish that feels as good as it looks.

To clean, use a suede brush periodically to lift dirt and restore the nap. Apply a suede protector before first wear.

We strongly advise against topical products such as leather conditioner on suede, as this can flatten the fibers and damage the texture.

If they get wet, do not worry. Let them air dry naturally, then brush them back to life.

Leather

Leather improves with time. It molds to the foot, softens with wear, and develops its own character.

Clean when they appear dirty with a soft, damp cloth. Apply a neutral leather conditioner from time to time, as the leather appears dry, to maintain softness and shine.

Note: conditioners can slightly darken leather. This is completely normal.

Metallic

Metallic leather is unique. It is made by fusing a metallic finish onto the grain of the leather, which gives it that lovely shine.

Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wear. Avoid abrasive surfaces and harsh products.

With time and wear, some of the surface finish may soften. This is simply the way metallic leather ages. We use high-quality metallic leather made to last, but we advise wearing these pairs with a little extra care.

Glitter

Glitter is pure joy, and it asks only to be treated gently.

Avoid contact with water, oils, and rough surfaces. When needed, wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Never scrub or use solvents, as this can cause the glitter to flake.

A little sparkle left behind at the party is completely normal too.

Corduroy

Corduroy brings texture and warmth, made for the cooler months. Its ridged weave gives it character that only grows with wear.

Spot clean with mild soap, water, and a soft brush or cloth. Air dry naturally, away from the dryer and direct sunlight. Brushing gently in the direction of the ridges after cleaning helps keep the texture looking its best.
